Catching up...

I started back to school this week and it's been interesting for Mark and I trying to figure out how to juggle our work with caring for Grace. So far, it is going pretty smoothly--but it is an adjustment! Anyhow, the blog has suffered, my apologies. Here's a little recap of the last 10 days or so :)

Hanging out in her "Daisy" onesie--"live fast, nap hard"

Aunt Amy's birthday was on the 3rd. We drove down to Indy on Friday the 2nd and had a Williams/Borlik family dinner. Grace wore her party dress that Alexia got her for the occassion!

The next morning Grandma Williams' friend, Ann Grosh came over to meet Grace. As you can see, Grace made her self comfortable on Ann's sholder.

Last Monday Grace and I lunched with our friends Jenn and Porter. Grace wore one of her Christmas dresses. We've decided that Christmas dresses can be worn through the month of January--they're so cute and we didn't get to wear them enough over the holidays!

Starting to sit up--with a little help from overstuffed couch cushions.

The big news is that Grace's furniture finally came in last Wednesday! The nursery is finally done (pictures soon!) and Grace started sleeping (I use that term loosely as she is still up a few times a night) in her own room that night. Grandma and Grandpa Williams and Aunt Amy came up on Friday to see the nursery and we enjoyed lunch with them.

Grace continues to do well with her tummy time. Her neck muscles are getting stronger every day. Sometimes all that tummy time wears her out though!

After church on Sunday--don't worry, she had tights on for church!

As you can see, Grace is doing well when she is propped up. What is missing however is a fourth picture which shows her toppled over--I decided I better grab her versus snapping a shot.

I've got skills!

We shot the following four videos yesterday. You'll have to excuse my narration and shoddy camera work--I know, a bit annoying! Anyhow, Grace has REALLY been making big developmental strides as you will see in the video. The grabbing at things is new and very exciting.

Happy New Year!

Even though we drove back from Michigan on New Year's Eve, we still wanted to celebrate with our friends, so we had three couples join us at our house. The Galls, Garrisons, and Kassens all converged in West Lafayette. It was a low key night but really nice to bring in 2009 with such a fun group. Grace woke up just before midnight so she was able to join in the festivities. Her friend Noah Gall however slept through the hoopla!

Moments before midnight--sound asleep in her swing

Noah--sleeping like a baby :)

Grace wasn't a fan of wearing the New Year's Hat but she certainly enjoyed it when Andy Garrison started "dancing" with her!

The ladies--Sara, Sarah, E, and Jill (the responsible adults at the party)

The boys--Ryan, Mark, Sean, and Andy (a little less "responsible" than the ladies)

On New Year's Day we were very low key--watch some football, took some naps, did a family dinner at Puccini's and then rented some movies. A perfect way to bring in the new year and to recuperate after all of our travels.

Grace "cheering" for her Hawkeyes. Luckily they won or else Daddy would have had the same face!

Maybe football really isn't Grace's thing. She slept through most of the games.

Wide awake at dinner. She can't wait for her teeth to come in so she can enjoy the pizza and pasta too!

Christmas in Michigan

The day after Christmas we packed up the car and headed north to the Saginaw area. There were so many people up there waiting to meet/see Grace! It was great because we stayed for four full days--much longer than our normal weekend trip up there!

First Grace got to meet two of my best and oldest friends (old as in I've been friends with them a long time--not that they are old!), Alexia and Shannon. Every year the three of us get together at Christmas and this year Grace got to join in the festivities. I told Alexia and Shannon that my mom would watch Grace so the three of us could go to lunch but they opted to just stay put and have baby time :)

Grace found her thumb while sitting on Alexia's lap.

Next it was time to get ready for the Weber Christmas. Grace had the cutest little red jumper that had candy canes on it however it didn't last long before she made a mess of it!

The only picture of the little jumper (we'll have to put it on her again to get a better one!)

Great Aunt Patty has the magic touch! Grace was sound asleep in her arms!

Great Aunt Peggy

Great Aunt Mary

Great Aunt Barb (she has a little grandbaby of her own, Alice, who is in Colorado so I think the time with Grace helped her get her baby fix!)

Yet another Christmas family shot!

So tired out after all that visiting!

The next day we had a baby shower for Aunt Megan and Uncle Bobby (pictures forthcoming!) where Grace got to meet lots of Grandma Applebee's friends. After that my dear friend Emily made a detour through Birch Run so she could meet Grace. I met Emily (a.k.a. "W") my freshman year and lived with her in the sorority house for two years. She holds such a special place in my heart and I'm so glad she got to meet Grace!

The next day was Grandpa time! We did Christmas at my Dad's house and then went out to dinner. My dad has never been a softie, but it's obvious by the look in his eyes when he holds Grace that she has definitely stolen his heart!

Tuesday was our last full day in Michigan. We made a trip to the Spruce's. I lived in the same house growing up and they lived next door to us the entire time. Marg and Len are like another set of grandparents to me (I have always called her "Grandma Marg") and Jenny has always been like a big sister. Grandma Marg said she can't wait for Grace to be big enough to play school--I used to go over there every day after school until my mom got home and we would play. I always was the teacher...I even used to give Grandma Marg homework!

Grace is showing Grandma Marg how she can hold her own pacifier!

After all the visiting, Grace did what she does best--fell asleep, this time on Grandpa Mike's lap!

Although the trip was much longer than normal, there were still folks we didn't get to see. Hopefully we can get up there again soon!

Christmas Day

Christmas Day was very low key for us. Grandma Applebee, Grandpa Mike, Uncle Bobby, and Aunt Megan came over and we opened Christmas presents. Then Grandma and Grandpa Williams joined us for the traditional eggs benedict breakfast. After that it was some game playing, followed by appetizers, naps and then dinner. A perfect way to unwind after the preceeding few weeks which had been so hectic!

Grace wonders, "Hmmm...did Santa come?"

Uncle Bobby can't get enough of me!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was a big day for Grace. In addition to playing Baby Jesus at church, Grace also attended her first Christmas Eve celebration with the Williams/Constable/Erdel/Eyler clans. For over 25 years these four families have gathered on Christmas Eve to share a meal and to celebrate the holiday and the great friendships the families have forged over the years. It's a great tradition which I'm sure Grace will enjoy more and more throughout the years. The group was gracious enough to include my family which made it extra special for Mark and me. Needless to say Grace was a big hit with the crowd!

Getting ready pre-party...
Grace has become a VERY alert baby over the last few weeks

Meeting Aunt Megan and Uncle Bobby (plus cousin Aly who is scheduled to make her grand entrance in February!)

Girl talk with Becky and Rachel Erdel

Entertaining Mr. and Mrs. Constable

Resting up for the onslaught of family photos!

That was exhausting!
